Bel Air is a beautiful neighborhood on the Westside of Los Angeles in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. Founded in 1923, by Alphonzo Bell Sr, it is often referred to as one of the world's most exclusive residential communities. Mr. Bell purchased a ranch with land of approximately 1,760 acres from Jake Danzinger for $2,000,000 on what is today is Bel Air Road.
The land was then subdivided and developed into large lot residential parcels. In order to preserve community standards, deed restrictions required landowners to spend at least $20,000 on home construction. Bel Air, along with Beverly Hills and Holmby Hills, form the Platinum Triangle of Los Angeles neighborhoods.
This community lies across Sunset Boulevard from the northern edge of the main campus of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). There are two main entrances which lead into this beautiful community: the East Gate at Beverly Glen and Sunset Boulevard and West Gate at Bellagio Way and Sunset Boulevard. The west gate is directly across the street from an entrance to UCLA.
